So I have been reading up on fertility ever since DH and I decided to start TTC after christmas. I know that is its only ballpark that women ovulate on day 14. Well I had a 31 day cycle in July and a 34 day cycle in August. According to the ballpark date, I should have ovulated on August 17th. AF came September 5th. Well my question stems from the fact that I had eggwhite discharge nearly a week after the 17th of August. Do you only get eggwhite when you ovulate? I have always had it but never associated it with just one day in my cycle when I ovulate. I'm wondering if I actually did ovulate that late, on roughly August 24th that is a 12 day luteal phase. Sorry if it all sounds confusing. I think 12 days is ok, but I'm worried that I'm creeping up to the 10 day mark! Is your luteal phase constant?

My luteal phase is 12 days too. I did BBT charting so I know for sure it was always 12 days. Anytrhing over 10 is fine. I got pregnant right away with both pregnancies.

Yes, you can have egg white CM after ovulation, usually you don't, but I always did. I read that it's fine if this happens.

Hi there,

EWCM is caused by an increase in estrogen, and some women get it when they're not fertile.

However, in your case, I think you probably did ovulate on Aug. 24, which is actually an 11-day luteal phase. You don't count the day of your period, as that's a new cycle. If you go by Aug. 17, that's an 18-day luteal phase, which doesn't happen.

11 days is considered a short luteal phase, but it's not necessarily a luteal phase defect (that would be 9 days or less). This could have been an off cycle, in which case you shouldn't worry about it. Keep on an eye on your luteal phase to see if you can see a definite pattern.

Good luck.

Yeah, I sometimes get egg-white discharge at times other than around ovulation. My luteal phase is pretty constant. It's always 14 days, but the length of my cycles sometimes varies quite a bit. You should start trying to take opks. They've helped me out a lot. Sometimes I don't ovulate until day 20 or so, but the luteal phase is always constant. Good Luck!

Try out www.mymonthlycycles.com... It's free and you can track everything that's going on with your body and it even has wonderful calendars that are easy to read and print!

I copied the below from the below website:
You may have heard that you ovulate around day 14 of your cycle. This is a myth. Women ovulate at different times of the month so paying attention to signs of ovulation is a good way to ensure that you are having intercourse during the right days each month.

Good Luck!

I think your ovulation days are passed already, because you should ovulate on the 12-13-14 days start form day one of your period which would be for this month I mean september from 16-18 of september. I hope this helps.
