I refilled the fluid and a week later it seems to have disappeared -- so, something is leaking. I think the worst news would be if it's the compresser. What are the other possibilities of where it's leaking fluid? How much is this likely to cost to repair? I live in the Atlanta area.

By fluid, I mean the stuff (used to be freon) that the repair shops put in the car -- this was done by a mechanic. I don't think that whatever it is they refilled is the problem -- I think the AC system is leaking, that's the problem.

How did you refill the fluid. Do you have the experience to do this. I don't think so. You may/probably have a leak. It could be a compressor seal or an o ring seal at a connection or a leak in the condensor or evaporator. I would go to a shop that specializes in a/c repair. The cost can vary as to the shop and how bad they rip you off.

Shop around the new R-34 systems can be worked on by most mechanics. I would call Auto-Zone and ask them how much a compressor is then 65 dollars an hour labor (most Shops) and tax will get you in the ballpark on cost. Most AC shop have a sniffer that will find a leak in your system so if that is your problem then you would only be looking at refill and labor. Good Luck

It all depends on where the leak is at. If the leak is in an easy position to fix, then its more likely to be a cheap fix. If the leak is in a hard to fix place then it will be a very expensive fix. as for the compressor unless it acting up its probably okay. My aunts 1999 caravan had a similar problem.

If you put some kind of fluid in your ac system the entire system will need to be replaced. Ac systems dont use fluid. To replace your ac system at a shop figure on around fifteen hundred bucks parts and labor
