One major factor of the Bolshevik's revolution defeating the mensheviks, was that when the Mensheviks go in power they did not end the war with Germany, and the First things the Bolsheviks did was to end it.
They also allowed the breakup of the Russian Empire, freeing the Baltic states (Retaken in WWII) and the Ukraine, taken in 1921
They were ruthless, and when the Allies, including America tried to invade to destroy the Soviets, Nationalism played a big part.

All these answers are correct.
When the Tsar abdicated, the Duma (the Russian parliament) set up a provisional government. Peasants could hardly understand what a provisional government was, and the leaders of the new government were inept at gaining support. Kerensky was a poor public speaker. The Bolsheviks promised the sky to the workers and the peasants, whereas the Whites only offered more of the same. The Whites were led by generals who understood military matters, but they had a very poor grasp of politics.
Lenin was very clever, ruthless, a great orator, and a peerless propagandist.

Lenin was successful because of the failures of the Czars.
In 1917, Russia was in a state of collapse. The people where hungry, the army was being decimated by the Germans, and promised reforms were late and half hearted. Revolution was imminent, and Lenin was lucky to get there when he did.
As the leaders of the Revolution tried to form a power structure, Lenin was effective in maneuvering support for himself and his party while weakening other groups. Lenin was an effective public speaker and had a talented group of people supporting him, including Trotsky, Bukharin, and others.

It was a very difficult moment in Russia. His opponents were not very skilled. According to some writers, Kerensky was poorly versed in the left wing ideologies that he would have to combat. Some people even call him an inept politician.
To say it in just a few words, the white Russians didn't have a leader like Lenin

the Russian people were terribly poor, and abused by the elite ruling class of Russia. in modern history, anytime there is a huge gap between rich and poor, and there is no middle class revolution followed. the same thing happened in the french revolution. You had a starving poor, that was abused by the ruling class and a figure came forward to start a movement that motivated the people.
