If you do not intend to use pictures for any commercial purpose, republication, or distribution, then the copyright status is not particularly important.

It is a complicated legal matter and in many cases the status may not be able to be possible to determine. Most pictures, unless published, have rights limited by the death date of the author plus 70 years. The point being, a photo taken before 1900 could potentially still have rights. 1930 is too recent even for published works.

what kind of pics r u talking about. Photos taken by a professional photographer will always have a copyright and so will movies. u need to b more specific

Good question. My mom tried to have pictures copied from around the 1930 's. They wouldn't do it.
