Hey ladies, I am currently 40 weeks pregnant as of today! My due date and still no baby :( I went to the doc last week. I was 2 cm dialated, 80% effaced, and the doctor stripped my membranes. 4 hours later I lost my mucous plug. I have been having strong but not consistent contractions for the last few days. This morning I woke up with a bloody brown discharge(no odor), and I have been having it in small amounts all day. Contractions are still pretty strong, but they aren't coming consistantly. Yesterday and today I have been having loose stools as well. The last hour I have been having lower back pain and gassy like cramping allll over. I called my doctor and she told me that when I am having contractions 5-7 minuets apart then go to the hospital! The problem is...I am not sure if these are contractions or not! Ahhhh, Any advice??? What was everyone elses labor symptoms?

I did not have regular contractions either. I was so damn confused. Same as you. I ended up just for the hell of it going to the hospital and telling them they were 7 minutes apart just to find out if I really was in labor. When I got there at 2 am sure enough I was 5 cm but very irregular contrations still. Well the hooked me up to all the machines and watched me. They ended up endusing me cause at 1:30pm no changes. I delived at 5:51. My other symptoms were basically I felt like I was getting my period. Very wet, swollen feeling. Cramps, backache, achy body. To me it sounds like you are close. If nothing happens by the morning I would go to the hospital just in case. Whats the worst that could happen, they send you home. Good Luck, and hope this helps.

Definitely sounds like the beginning of labor. I would highly (HIGHLY) suggest you eat something and go to bed. I wouldn't go to the hospital until the contractions are 3-4 minutes apart. The more time in the hopsital the greater your chance of c-section. You won't be able to eat or drink once you are at the hospital so definitely eat now and then again just before you go in. Rest now! Labor can be long and hard and you'll need rest. All these early contractions are probably dilating your cervix, without much pain...so you are very lucky. Just eat and rest!! Good luck!

Well, if your in doubt about being able to tell if your contracting or not, you may just want to go in to get monitored. I remember looking at the contraction monitor they have in the hospital and being totally surprised that a sensation that I thought was nothing actually was a contraction!

Another thing you can look for if timing the contractions just seems impossible at the moment is observing what the contractions are doing to you. Are they taking your breath away? Or making you stop whatever you're doing? If so, go in.

I hope you've gone already and the baby is here, too!.... I'm not happy with you not having a 'fer sure' good strong contraction that stopped you in your tracks yet, even tho you were that far effaced... I'm almost afraid baby isn't in the right position..... but you'll come tell us what happened, won't you?... best of luck!!!...

Usually when labor contractions are here you will know. I know it's hard to know before you've done it before though. Try just watching your stomach for hardening and time that.

You will know. Everyone told me that and I didn't quite understand. But trust me you will know. I lost my mucus plug 2 weeks prior, so everyone is different. Go with your instinct, if you feel you need to go in, go in, all they can do is send you home. AND NO YOU WONT LOOK STUPID!
