I have a 2005 Dell desktop and am running Windows XP professional. My computer won't shut down no matter what I do. My anti-virus is up to date and I remove spyware every week. What could be the problem?

Hold the On/off button on your computer for about 5seconds and it will turn it. This is called an emergency shut down.

Hold down the power button until the PC shuts off

NO NO NO, DO NOT Unplug or power off the surge, this can do more harm than good.

-CTRL ,ALT, DEL

After you get the PC booting up again, try going to
Start, Contol pannel, System performance and maintanience, Administrative tools, Event Viewer, and click on Application and or system to see if any errors had occured. You can look up the event ID number on the net to usually troubleshoot issues.
