I am really interested in working for the FBI when I get out of college. By the time I graduate from college I should have a BA in Theater, a BS in Information Technology with a concentration in Network Security and I hope to get a minor in Business. Any chance I can get in? Or at least get in to one of their summer internships ?

You need to start applying for internships immediately. The age ceiling for field agents is between 32 to 35 years old. I would make an appointment to see the Senior Agent at your nearest FBI bureau to get information and make your 'face' known. Internships and Job Shadowing are based upon 'face' contact, recommendation, clean criminal background, and skills. If you have a foreign language in there, this is a plus. Also, if you don't make the cut as a field agent, support staff requirements are also available. Somebody needs to keep the cars running, the papers filed, and the dispatches made via radio and tv.

Check em out and good hunting.

The FBI and the CIA are two of the hardest professions to get into. They take only the very best college graduates who pass all kinds of psychological and aptitude tests. They do extensive background checks on you, your family, and even your friends. If your third cousin twice removed runs drugs for the Mafia, they'll find out about it and you're out.

I know of a guy with straight 4.0 college average who had also worked in the sherif's department and he couldn't get into the CIA.

In addition to the above requirements, as in most Federal government jobs, you almost have to know somebody in the system to even get an interview.

The IT degree with the minor in business might get you in. The theater degree isn't likely to help much. They hire a lot of people with law degrees.

See website http://www.fbijobs.gov/

For an internship, apply and see what happens - looks on their website though like FBI interns are volunteer, not paid.

Good luck.

Why do you want to waste your time with a degree in theater if you want to work for the FBI.

Neither one of those jobs will help you.

Accounting, Finance, and believe it or not, English, are the top majors of new FBI hires.

Start networking and reading about the FBI. Your IT degree will certainly help you. You could also try a govt. contractor like Lockheed Martin or Raytheon and then get into the government -- that way you're pay will be higher and they have to bring you in at a higher grade. Look for series 2210.
