Well you've got the answer several times over (helmet, feet can reach footpegs).

I've taken my family on the back as soon as they were big enough. Ride slow and safe, and keep the rides short at first to build their coinfidence and they might get as hooked on bikes as you are.

Two suggestions....

A Pillion Pal is a belt you wear with handles for your passenger to hold on to. A cheap way of helping an inexperienced pillion of any age to ride correctly and to hold on. My wife has been riding pillion for years and is fearless, but she prefers the belt to relying on a grabrail.

I recently saw a neat child seat that straps to the passenger seat of a motorbike. They aren't sold in the UK but they are legal. There is no crash safety function, but the seat grips a child's backside a bit better and there's a useful backrest, which can only help. They are available on the internet from Germany.

The only warning I would give you based on my experience - kids fall asleep on the back. You'll know when they're nodding off but be ready for it.

Have fun, ride safe, and I hope your kids love their ride out with you.

PS Why do you see riders in full leathers taking out pillions (of any age) who are less well protected? If you need the kit, so does your passenger.

Unless the law has changed, there is no minimum age limit for a pillion passenger, as long as they can touch the footpegs, they can ride pillion, even if they are really young, 8 or 9, they just have to be able to touch the pegs.

Where I live, there is no age limit.
The only requirement is to be able to reach the footpegs.
The footpegs do not have to be in the standard position.
At one time, I added a third set at the top of my shocks so my son could ride with me. Perfectly legal.

The street code quite ambiguously merely says "no longer a baby" yet without defining the term "baby". the only different standards to be met is a helmet & that the passenger ought to be waiting to realize the footrests.

There is no minimum age, but in the UK they MUST be able to reach the footrests.

None, but they need to be wearing a helmet, be able to reach the footrests, and be able to sit on with stability.

There isn't one. The only restriction is finding a helmet to fit.
