How long did you wait until you stopped using a backup method, the first time you went on the pill?

What body type are you? (overweight, average, or thin/underweight).

I'm asking because so many people have been saying that i should have waited 1 month before relying on birth control pills. But i waited 1 week, like the instructions said.
The body type might determine how long it took for the pill to regulate in your system

I have always heard that one should wait a full month. It may vary somewhat with the specific type of hormone in the pills you were prescribed (different brands have different types and levels of hormones).
While I have not heard of body type affecting going on the pill, I have heard of it affecting the success rate of the pill. Since the dose is the same regardless of weight, women who are very overweight may have somewhat lower protection.

Backup is often recommended -- especially for first-time users -- because of the possibility of missing/forgetting to take a pill or two. It's the "better safe than sorry" theory.

The instructions are based on literally decades of research and observation; 7 days of continuous usage is all that's required for contraceptive coverage, if they're taken as directed (i.e., no misses). Body type doesn't have anything to do with it....the only time this might be of consequence would be with the Depo Provera shot - and even then it's usually inconsequential.

If the instructions on your specific pill said one week, then you should be fine. But to be on the safe side, many/most doctors tell their patients to wait a month before relying only on birth control. I personally waited one month, as well.

Body type doesn't make a difference.

Well some doctors say to wait a month before it's safe to have sex without any other protection. But just because you are on the pill it doesn't mean you won't get an STI so be careful.

I was told to wait two weeks by my doctor.

I had just gotten off of depo provera (poison IMO).

I'm slightly overweight. 33y/o, 5 ft 1 in, taking Kariva (pill) now for over a year and a half.
