The easiest way to solve this is by using elimination

2x+y=4
1x+y=3

you can subtract to get rid of the y and you end up with x=1
Now that you have the x value you can plug it into one of the equations.

2x+y=4
2(1)+y=4
2+y=4
Now bring the 2 to other side to make it y=
and you get y=2

so your final answers are x=1, y=2

2x + y = 4
x + y = 3
Subtract the 2nd equation fro the 1st equation getting:
x=1
Put x =1 into 1st equation getting:
2(1) +y = 4 --> y = 2
