, san gabriel valley area. We don't want to kill them, but we can't let them go in the neighborhood only to be killed by someone else eventually. What are their chances of survival in the wild near a creek in the mountains? What will they eat? Thankyou.

Very likely. We raised a baby wood rat as a pet, and it was one of our favorite pets. But don't try that with an adult rat. They are very likely to be carrying disease, and will almost certainly try to bite you. Rats are well equipped to survive on their own.

They would easily survive but if I were you, I would call in an exterminator and get rid of them professionally. Rats and mice carry a lot of diseases and to get that close to them even for a little while could make you very sick and possibly even kill you.

Kill them. You can't let them go in the wild, for crying out loud! They'll out-compete the native animals.

yes , rodents can survive anywhere , they will find somewhere to go and eat bugs and whatever they can find
