It seems that if a player has the highest projected fantasy points for the season, he should also have the highest projected ranking in his category.

Could be that, while a player has projected points, that is just an educated guess. But, then you have players who are proven point machines and are consistent. They would then be ranked higher, because it's a safer play.

For example, Peyton Manning has been lighting up the fantasy scoresheets for a few years now. And, while Drew Brees actually put up better fantasy numbers than Peyton last year, he is a relative newcomer and hasn't shown he can be consistently productive like Manning has. So, he's ranked lower than Manning.
