Ribosomal RNA (or rRNA) is a component of the ribosomes. In prokaryotes (bacteria) there are 3 types of mature rRNA and in eukaryotes (cells with nuclei) there are 4 types. So in humans, the 28S, 5.8S, and 5S rRNA are stored in the large ribosomal component and the 18S is stored in the small ribosomal component. The two components come together when exposed to messenger RNA (mRNA), and then "read" the mRNA to produce protein.
