Where did you get that statistic? Where's your data?
Well, ok, it's true.
Did you know also, that statistics are easily manipulated? For example if you call people during working hours you'll get more people who...are not at work! More people on welfare, unemployment, ignorant college students etc. Another way is to use a small sample size. If you ask 30 people an opinion and you don't like the answer just poll 30 more until you get the numbers you want.
It bugs me when politicians recite 'statistics' without mentioning the sample size and who did the poll. They should at least give us a web address with full information on the poll they are mentioning. Hillary and Gore do this a lot, but maybe I just notice because I hate them anyway.

Not necessarily made up but one must consider the poll taker and their reason to poll. Statistics are always able to be manipulated and interpreted in many ways depending on what results you are trying to glean from the data.

Statistics are what you make them. If you stand outside a school at 9am. and ask ten women if they have a child of school age, chances are that nine of them will say `yes` and the tenth will be a grand-mother!
