...well, despite being a big fan of the seemingly untouchable original (...it was one of the first 'R' rated films that I went to, without parental escort), I am STILL most curious what they're going to do with it; I'm game for the idea, providing the story is gripping and compelling enough, and the action and tension are dynamic, in comtemporary terms. Let's face it; a remake of "The Warriors" will be very hard-pressed to touch the overall greatness of the original. The most that it can hope for, is to be at least equally entertaining, but in a considerably different meld...
...time have changed considerably since 1979, and a remake of this film must definitely reflect that...in tone, attitude and overall approach...
...apparently, although the same basic premise is being scripted, the story is being updated, and shifted to Los Angeles, this time; action filmmaker Tony Scott is reportedly taking the directorial reins (...definately a plus), and he has been quoted as wanting to be adamently loyal to Walter HIll's original script, as closely as possible, and yet still have the film stand well on it's own; it is my understanding that he wants to do something much more serious, and steer away from the comic book aspects of the original film (i.e., no colorful rival gangs, like the Baseball Furies, etc.)...
...I guess we'll just have to wait and see, won't we???

I know that it probably won't feature the creativity and imagination that The Warriors did.
Yes, I have seen this film many times and wonder where they think they are going to find anyone like David Patrick Kelly~ ~"Oh, Warriors! Come out and plaaaay! Oh, Warriors!..." while clinking those bottles over and over and over until everyone wants to shriek at him to STOP IT! They can try to recreate that, but I don't see it working as well.
You know they'll have more violence, gore, nudity and tons of language, convinced they're making it better and bigger. Nine times out of 10, the films fail to live up to the original. What a waste of money there has been on these remakes.
I wonder if this film has become less controversial with time. Back when it was released, it caused a major stir and a lot of violence throughout the country. Let's hope the remake doesn't spark the same response.
I despise practically every remake, none of which measure up to the original: Stepford Wives, The Fog, 13 Ghosts, House on Haunted Hill, The Haunting, etc. Then, there are the TV-inspired disasters: Starsky & Hutch, The Dukes of Hazzard, The Beverly Hillbillies, Bewitched, Lost in Space, The Mod Squad, Charlie's Angels, etc. I didn't care for some of those series, but the films are excruciatingly bad at times. The Addams Family films did capture the essence of the cartoons and series, so I commend them. I shudder when I hear that they are planning a Man from U.N.C.L.E. film; I'm among the fans that dread hearing about the casting.
I detest the trend of remaking films simply because they believe that more money and more of everything else has to be better. Now, some films recast could be interesting. Do you think Isabella Rossellini would star in a remake of "Casablanca"? I saw her last night on "Death Becomes Her", and was amazed all over again that she's the image of her mother. (She's a twin, too!)
This is a tangent, but I wonder why Isabella hasn't had a major film career. She's beautiful and talented, much more than some others who get lead roles. How sad that is.

Certin movies are just to be left alone. And some movies can be made into remakes. They made a remake of Psycho and a few other movies. Now if they try to do a remake of say like The Phildelphia Story or Citizen Cane just throw yourself of the bridge. But Warriors was a great flick. "I know who shot Cyrus."
"Warriors...come out and playyyy!!!!! Warrioorrrrrrrssssssss come out and plaaaayyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!" Now if you have tyhe right cast and keep it true to the story it maybe a hit.

I'm not against re-making films, I'm just against re-making great, well known films. And, with very few exceptions, well known films are all Hollywood re-makes these days(If you don't count re-making old television shows like "Charlie's Angels", "The Mod Squad", "Mission Impossible", etc.).
There was a time- before I was born in the '60's- when Hollywood re-made films that weren't very good or just weren't very popular. John Huston's "The Maltese Falcon" with Bogart was the second time the book by Dashiell Hammett had been made. 1939's "The Wizard of Oz" with Judy Garland was at least the second film made of L. Frank Baum's book. The preceding films simply weren't that good.
And the Clint Eastwood/Sergio Leone western "A Fistful of Dollars" re-made Akira Kurasowa's samurai film "Yojimbo", a good film that was barely seen outside of Japan.
(In the edit- dmanintelect23, "Seven Samurai" was re-made as "The Magnificent Seven", which was also pretty good.)
I guess I don't mind re-makes, just not re-makes of widely popular films. Those re-makes are almost doomed to failure. But, hey, if someone tried to remake a film like "Enemy Mine", which is pretty good but forgotten, I'd go see it.

I own the new special edition, great movie, on remakes some are good, I think this would make a good remake, but others like the 7 samurai and casablanca should never be touched.

They are constantly up-dating all the movie that aren't protected by wills or legal troubles.
i like the Jackson remake of King Kong better than the one with Jessica Lange and Jeff bridge though look at 3;10 to Yuma it's a remake with some slight changes...

Remakes are happening all the time -- studios see them as having a "built-in" audience because there are usually already fans of the original who're going to pony-up and watch the "new" version.
(Too many of these end up disappointing & falling flat - but that hasn't stopped the studios from pumping out more of 'em)

The original was a classic. I don't see how they can improve upon it. Can you say, " Warriors come out and playay!"
