I just completed the forms, how long should I expect it to take? The guide suggests about 10 - 12 weeks, is this a bit too hopeful?

You apply to the court to have your divorce put on the court list. To do this you simply complete two forms called the "Affidavit in Support" and the "Application for Directions for Trial".

Application for Decree Nisi
Approximately 4-6 weeks later, your decree nisi will be pronounced in court. This means the judge will read it out in open court , but you need not attend. A copy of the decree nisi will be sent to you.

Application for Decree Absolute
6 weeks and 1 day from the date on your decree nisi you can apply for your decree absolute. You simply send off the application form with the court fee of £40.00 (or fee exemption form if you are on relevant benefits) and your decree absolute will come through within a few days. This would mean that the marriage has been dissolved.

(and you look cute, his loss i think)

I did mine by myself. Our case was like yours. We both want to get divorce and no money to spilt and no kids. When you go to the court they will tell you what to do or you can go to the court web site www.hmcourts-service.gov.uk Mine took about 6 months. If you both sign and fill all the forms properly it will take shorter.
