For what purpose? Are you planning on making bombs or pyrotechnics? If so, then I really can't help you.....

I think you are talking about potassium nitrate. KNO3. Good stuff. It is used as a fertlizer and in some medical applications. It is also an ingredient in gunpowder and is a starting point for many different types of explosives. That is one reason why it is not too easy to find jusy laying around.

You say you need something like it, in what way? It all depends on what particular characteristic of the chemical you need to find in another chemical.

First you ought to be able to properly spell the compound. Potassium Nitrate KNO3. What are you going to use it for?

You can get it at any good butcher shop, used for curing meats like brisket.

You could make some black powder with it but if you cannot spell a chemical compound --- you ought not risk losing fingers.

If by 'like potassium nitrate` you mean an
oxidizing agent you might as well despair.
In these time ALL of them will be hard to get.

If you mean a nitrogen rich fertilizer, try urea.
(More nitrogen / lb. and less of a fire hazard.)

Potassium*Nitrate can be synthesized by nitrating potassium by itself, or by nitrating potassium mononitrate or potassium dinitrate, if you can find these chemicals... but to nitrate you need nitric acid and you need to heat the reaction.. which could result in quite the exothermic reaction.. so you risk explosion, and covering yourself with hot nitric acid... not a good idea Mr. amateur chemist.
