... was going on a trip. And on its way back (approx 2 years) it would do a fly by of the moon landing site close enough to take photos, as obviously the flag and equipment would still be there, and there by prove or disprove conclusively the moon landing! Any body know anything about it?

I wonder of you are referring to the SMART-1 spacecraft which spent about 18 months orbiting the Moon from March 2005 to September 2006. It did image the general area of the Apollo 11 and Apollo 15 landing sites but not with enough resolution to pick up the hardware.

If you go to the SMART-1 page on the ESA website and click on "Presentations" at the left you'll get a list and at the top will be a presentation given about a month ago summarising the achievements of the mission. I downloaded the slides as a PDF (about 7.5 MB). Slide 12 shows an image of the region around the Apollo 11 landing site. According to the caption it was taken from a distance of 1764 km and has a field of view 80 km by 120 km. The craters Aldrin and Collins are clearly seen (though I wouldn't have known what they were without the captions) and the landing site is indicated with an arrow. But all one can see is a lava plain with wrinkle ridges and a smattering of impact craters.

Why would photos of the landing site prove anything to people who already don't believe what is obviously the truth?

People who refuse to accept reality will not accept a photo as conclusive proof - they will simply say it is another forgery.

The moon landings happened, and anyone who thinks they did not either needs to see a psychiatrist or to read some history books.
