Just out of curiosity here. We are always told that if you have a problem with your boss/ manager/superior etc. You can go above their heads without fear of retaliation. Has anyone ever done this? and if so what kind of retaliation did you get from your superior if any?

I did at the other company I was at. She was awful. I would say becareful & if your gonna go above them make sure it does'nt seem like your retalating against them. That can get you fired too. Well she ( my ex manager) started looking for ways to **** me over. & she did in my evaluation. She gave me a bad evaluation & of course that cost me money. She wrote nothing but bullshit that did'nt have anything to do with my work ethics. Then I thought about it & I wanted sue. But I thought to myself nah!! life will take care of it. I ended up finding work else where & shes still in that shitty enviroment.

OOOH

well, it depends on who is above them

in most instances it is someone more crazy then he/she

but if you have built up a rapport with someone more superior then you MAY want to tell them

let me say that usually I just move on

but in the cases I have seen this usually ends up badly

i reported a man for sexual harrassment once (no easy task for me because I am usually of the school of thought that says ignore it and it will go away)

I did it ONLY because about 7 other girls at this place were having the same problem and we got convinced it would help if we did it collectively, as he had so much power

anyway, the guy above him was like the biggest chaufinist ever, although much more tactful than our boss, and he was married and dating one of the female managers on the side

he not only didn't act on the statements we took, he even laughed at them

we all young, educated girls simply just took other clerkships and internships

thank God I wasn't financially strapped and could do this

the man who was our boss reacted very badly and was going to destroy us if he could

but let me tell you, you had better know who you are reporting stuff to if you are going to do it

I used to have the ear of my boss's boss, but that ended suddenly with the big boss not returning my call and my immediate boss implying that my job was in jeapardy if I go over her head (which implies help from head office to know I was doing it).

On You Tube there's a video of taking screws out of the boss's swivel chair AGAIN, so he thinks he "broke his chair" AGAIN. I'd rather return good for evil, as Jesus told us to do.

Over-all, I think bosses are as vulnerable as other employees. If you have multiple bosses, as I did, one could be eliminated without any problem!

I was once informed that I earned the company a profit equal to my pay, so I figured I was a valueable partner, and the boss was probably scared more than I was.

I went to human resources because my boss didn't help with my complaint. The human resource guy told my boss everything that I told him. My boss and human resources gave me 3 write ups for the most rediculous unwritten policies ever , and then I was terminated and pushed out the door yesterday, after 9 years hard work. (Be cautious and keep a journal)

Sure you can go over the boss's head but your will be the one that rolls, People are human, and there will be retaliation, so be very careful.....
