Its a well known fact the date is DAY, MONTH, YEAR in the proper world so why do you Americans have to swap things round and try (but fail) to confuse a well established system.

Oh yeah and its HEADING not HEADED when you are talking about road directions.

Mr Jessup, I think you'll find you lot were cowboys and Indians a little over 100 years ago, still riding horses and chasing tumbleweed through your deserted towns without European influences you'd still be doing the same.

Having read all the previous replies it prompted me to say the following.

Unfortunately for them the Americans are so up themselves with misguided patroitism that they deservedly have become the most hated nation in the world, in their attempts to reject metrification and become "special" they do silly thing like put the day and month the other way around.

As you mentioned regardless of the latest "News" that China are polluting the world, they still fall way behind the Americans who have no interest whatsoever in the environmental issues of their massive amounts of wastage. Why people keep harping on about how great America is a mystery to me, its time they got their act together and became an example to us all instead of an embarrassment.

We have it so that it is commonly accepted in the states that it is month, day and year. We also have adopted a twelve hour clock, unlike most of the world. We have figured out that the metric system, while making sense, BLOWS! We have also devised the daylight savings method so that we can be more productive with our time and remain the world's greatest nation. And, frankly, to come on with a question like this at this time, attempting to throw a back handed insult, around the anniversary of one of our nations greatest tragedies, truly reveals your lack of common sense.

It is accepted business protocal for most Americans to use Month first , then day. Most word proccessing programs give the user a choice which to choose. Most Americans have accepted the standard of month first. Americans are not very logical. They also drive on the wrong side of the street, that makes it awkward and dangerous for drivers who must exit their vehicles from the Traffic side of the car! We are also one of the few countries left in the world not using the metric system as a standard!.

We do many things differently in the United States because we were intentionally rebelling against the European way of doing things. It's proper in America to write the date "MMMM dd, YYYY."

In the US, 9-11 has a special significance because our emergency number is 9-1-1. 11-9 wouldn't carry that correlation.

If you're going to be critical, you're opening yourself up to criticism. If you insist on being proper about English usage, then please use proper English grammar.

In America we put the month before the day.

Additional Comments:
I don't think it was necessary to insult all Americans just because a few people made some rude comments.

I guess it is just the way Americans do things. Just like our clocks are 12 hour, not 24 like some European countries.

My question is why it bothers you so much. Whether it's 9-11 or 11-9, you still know what we're talking about so who gives a damn? Why create such hostility over something so trivial?

2 reasons...

It happened in America, so we use American dates..

and terrorists picked that day because 911 is the number you call when there is an emergency over here... it connects you to the police... (that wouldnt work with 119)

Well, if it happened outside of America, it probably would be referred to as 11-9.

No need to get abusive.
