Wow! All these people being so cavalier about over 3,700 young Americans being killed and over 25,000 injured and calling it a "small price to pay"! Why doesn't someone ask the mothers and fathers and brothers and sisters and wives and husbands of those who died whether they think it's a small price to pay. And a small price to pay for what? For victory against all terrorists? And when is that going to happen?
Okay, here's what he said...can someone tell me what the "context" was that excused this kind of statement?
GOP Leader Boehner: If We Defeat Al Qaeda, "We" Will Have Paid "A Small Price" In Iraq
September 12, 2007 -- 4:18 PM EST // //
I've just received some advance excerpts of an interview CNN's Wolf Blitzer has done with GOP House leader John Boehner. It's set to air this afternoon. Take a look at this chunk:
BLITZER: How much longer will U.S. taxpayers have to shell out $2 billion a week or $3 billion a week as some now are suggesting the cost is going to endure? The loss in blood, the Americans who are killed every month, how much longer do you think this commitment, this military commitment is going to require?
BOEHNER: I think General Petraeus outlined it pretty clearly. We’re making success. We need to firm up those successes. We need to continue our effort here because, Wolf, long term, the investment that we’re making today will be a small price if we’re able to stop al Qaeda here, if we’re able to stabilize the Middle East, it’s not only going to be a small price for the near future, but think about the future for our kids and their kids.
Note that Boehner is specifically answering a question about troop deaths here -- which he calls a "small price," should we win the war.
This is an obvious point, but it bears making again, anyway: It's really uncanny how often those who aren't sacrificing anything for the Iraq war, aside for perhaps their health in the polls, are willing to...
(a) Describe the very real sacrifice being made by others as not being such a big deal
...while simultaneously...
(b) Describing the sacrifice others are making as their own.
Also, it bears pointing out that Boehner's overall thought here -- that we'll have made a small sacrifice "if we're able to stabilize the Middle East"-- is a pretty big "if." Of course, if you're not really sacrificing anything in the quest to realize this big "if," then there's not much to be lost in going for it even if it is a real long shot, now is there.

No I do not. Boehner is shedding none of his blood, sweat, and tears in Iraq.
I still can't belive we are debating being Iraq...when we never should have gone there in the first place. It is the dumbest thing this country has ever done. And now we are trying to convince ourselves that we have to stay or else it will get worse. We don't know that it will get worse...but we are convinced that only Americans can solve the problems there.
We will all of us still be debating this a year from today and the blood of another 1000 brothers and sisters will have been spilled.
So mark you calendars...a year from now let's see if we are all of us still talking about this insanity in Iraq and dealing with the loss of more precious American blood.
1000+ more US families will join the more than 3500+ other American families in paying the price that Boehner feels is acceptable to bring democracy to a pile of sand populated with a bunch of boneheaded people.
It's not worth it.

I do believe his name is funny for one and for two I am gonna tell you something some people may not like. Individually we are nothing. Our lives mean squat. You and I are commodities to be bought and sold by those more powerful and in the end even the powerful are nothing. So to help you in your life keep this in mind, you are worthless, I am worthless, it is nothing for our blood to spill. If you die at your computer this second the sun will still rise tomorrow. The best thing humanity can do is get over itself.

It is treason against the American people and a slap in the face to all those trying to come here via the legal channels. IMHO all those that get this passed should be shot on sight, they are an enemy of America and Americans.

Well, it is the price we have to pay to achieve the significant, far-reaching and necessary goals we have in the Middle East. Yes, compared to the objectives, and what's been true in the past, they are small, but that's really an unfortunatel choice of adjectives, however true.
Because the newsmedia and the lefties will jump all over it, emoting their maudlin feelings all over the place, ignoring the truthfulness inherent in what he said.

I believe that American blood is a small price to pay to preserve American freedom.
This administration's objectives in the middle east are a bit unclear. But from my understanding they are ideals and objectives which I do not believe american blood should be spilled for.

No I don't. No matter what rhetoric anyone espouses, it's still blood for oil.
Actually captaincollector, that's not quite true. Most of the original settlers of this country were so ultra-conservative they were forced to leave their countries because they couldn't get along w/ their countrymen. I.E. the Pilgrims, Quakers, Shakers, Amish etc.

Why yes - I support killing as many troops as necessary so Bush and the GOP can be exonerated.
