Which IP address are you wanting to change?
1) The IP on your PC (only if you directly connect to the cable modem)?
2) The IP on your PC (if connected to a router that is connected to a cable modem)?
3) The IP on your router connected to the cable modem?

You only effectively have the ability to change the IP of your PC when connected to a router (situation #2). For the other situations, you can request to renew your IP address, but most ISPs have long lease periods on their DHCP address assignment that you would have to release and stay offline for a week or so.

For the "how to":
PC: From MS-DOS, issue this command: ipconfig /renew
Router: Login to the web based admin page and follow the manufacturer's instructions on renewing the IP address.
