Yes, they do. Depending on where you are, ie; the SE United States, during an extreme dry period the acorns will drop rapidly instead of over a more extended period during wetter conditions.

common oak trees in america produce acorns every year....some years are more bountiful than others...

if you enjoy wildlife, leave the acorns and watch squirrells go nuts eating and collecting them,

and if you live in a more wooded area, you may see deer come into your yard to eat them...

Well some years our trees have a hole lot less , but they will alway make there nuts... I think my dad said it right .. trees are like a woman every season thiers a little more and some time a little less.....

It was messy last year as far as I remember. I have them in the front and back yard and they're making the squirrels very happy.
