I logged onto my computer this evening as I knew a friend was sending me an email but it didn't arrive. I have sent myself emails just to see if it is working and on average they are taking up to two hours to arrive if at all. Yahoo Answers to a question I sent in are also arriving very slowly even though when I go onto the Yahoo Answers site they are all there. My computer is not very old and I have not downloaded anything of any size. I have checked the memory and that has loads of space on it. Does anyone know what is happening, it will probably take me until tomorrow night to get any answers!!!!

This has nothing to do with you or your PC. Slow mailing is just the result of busy traffic on yours and Yahoos servers. It is Friday evening, probably the busiest time of the week for servers. Basically the more people on-line the slower the internet traffic. Be patient, you will get your mails.

If you mean Yahoo email then it is running slowly and they are aware of it cos I've had one in limbo for nearly 3 days! I keep getting a message from the Yahoo mailer daemon apologising for the service problem.
Isn't it strange that a normal email doesn't reach me yet an unwarranted violation email gets here within a few minutes!

Many people don't seem to be aware of some simple things we can do to help ourselves with speed. Here is my checklist which I observe:

1. Set wallpaper and screensavers to blank or none — they run continuously in the background and use memory.
-----right-click on the desktop, select Properties
-----click the screensaver tab, on the left where it says "screensaver," select none.
-----click the desktop tab, for background, select none
2. Review your start menu – remove anything you don’t need on a daily basis — load games, etc. on an as-needed basis.
-----click Start, Settings, Taskbar and Start Menu
-----click the Start Menu tab
-----select a program you do not want to load at Startup, then click remove.
-----Caution -- do not touch anything you are not sure of or you will mess up your computer royally.
3. From Internet Explorer, click Tools, Internet Options: delete cookies, delete files (offline), and clear history. (You can also set days to store history to 0.)
----- These actions will clear your computer’s cache. (For a description of cache, go to http://help.yahoo.com/l/ph/yahoo/mail/access/access-27210.html )
4. Run Disk Cleanup, Scandisk, Defrag at least every two weeks (the more frequently they are run, the less time they take).
-----These can be found in Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools.
5. Periodically, click Start, Programs, Run — then type ipconfig renew
(that’s ipconfig space renew).
6. Optional: Speed vs Goodies — in the Control Panel, System, Advanced, Performance, Settings — you can have visual effects or let Windows select the best options. I am using “Best Performance.” Your choice.
These things should increase speed and free up memory as much as possible.

This is a very simple site that you can retrieve your e-mail (POP) directly from the main servers. Just put in your user name and password and it will get the e-mail for you before anyone else. Once you use it you will not go back to your original e-mail. Good Luck!!
