I like to clear out any virus or spyware that I may have from my computer. If I disable system restore, would I lose my system restore points? In other words would I be able to restore my system to say January of 2007.
Thanks for your answer in advance.

In addition to restore points set by the user, the system generates restore points regularly. The number saved depends on the amount of disk space allowed for this.

From the Start menu, click Help and Support. Click to open "restore to an earlier date." Keep your eye on the cancel button - and see how far you can go back.

Why not go into Safe Mode (Windows will not be loaded) and run your antivirus and spyware programs. This way, hopefully, you will catch any self-executable files.

When you exit Safe Mode, you will return to Windows but your desktop icons will probably be out of order. Just drag them back to where you want them.

No. When you start System Restore back up it will make a new restore point & that's the only one you'll have. This is good because it won't put any virus from before back in your PC. This is bad if you vitally need to restore something & have to start the whole cleaning process all over again.
