They do, exactly.
Same reason they say that the poor do have medical coverage "Emergency Rooms". When Bush said that he was speaking of children specifically.
Here in Calif., emergency rooms have started closing because they can't afford to operate any more treating for free.

I cannot believe that you are basing your entire premise on that article in the USA Today. Tavis Smiley is a cry baby. He is always crying about racism but has no problem casting the first stone of prejudice at Whites. Tavis Smiley is a hypocrite. The Republicans do care about minorities, but they are not going to some biased minority meeting where the politicians are expected to kiss the rear ends of every minority activist who thinks that society owes them some special favors. The Democrats have no problem kissing up. What people like Tavis Smiley fail to realize is that the Democrats are just using and abusing them to pander votes. I am unable to count how many times the Liberal Democrats have exploited the Black community. The Republicans do not play that kind of "dirty pool."

Kwitcherbellyakin, it was the Republican Party who won the American Civil War and liberated the slaves. It was no small task. The Democrats were calling for bringing the troops home, even in 1862.
It isn't that we Republicans don't give a crap about minorities, we just can't stand the "social programs" that sap our country's strength and hold us all back.
Have you noticed that most of the people that fit the category of "minority" are impoverished? Do You know why that is? Because they think like Democrats.

Three of the four leading Republican presidential candidates turned down invitations to a PBS debate this month at a historically black college in Baltimore, leading moderator Tavis Smiley on Thursday
to accuse them of ignoring minority voters.
i guess it says it right there in the first paragraph. who wants to spend a night listening to bullshit. there are many races in the republican party , and until this immigration BS they had a large majority of Hispanics who voted for them regularly , but i do believe there will be allot less this time around

It's not that they don't care specifically about minorities. It's that they don't treat them any differently than any other Democrat voters.
The Democrats do feel sorry for those minorities, so they give them welfare. Of course the law of unintended consequences went unheeded so the government handouts destroyed the black family and locked most of these people into living on subsidies - sometimes as many as 4 generations without a real job. We created our own little France.
Republicans say get a job. Take care of yourself. Don't look to us to take care of you. We're busy printing money and making war.
And if anyone needed to be reminded of this, go find some of the pictures of those wretches sitting outside the 'dome in New Orleans...waiting for the government to come.
If you're waiting for the government to save your butt you're going to wait a long, long time.

OK, I am a liberal ... and even I don't think this is a fair characterization.
The basic conservative concept is that government should be small and that the people are generally capable of taking care of themselves.
That is, if a minority has a problem, then it should be dealt with WITHOUT the intervention of government because a large powerful government eventually takes on a life of its own and sucks both the freedom and the resources away from private life. Without personal responsibility, eventually we all end up with nothing.
(Conservatives ... did I get that right?)
Ultimately, I don't fully agree with the above approach to world problems, but I surely do understand its logic, and its not a matter of "giving a crap" about something ... its more a matter of a grim realization that sometimes the world needs "tough love".

The candidates are just avoiding what is most likely to be a hostile audience. The candidates want to be in front of audiences that will help their cause, not draw attention to policies that are controversial. This is not a trait unique to only republicans, although it is true that some republican policies are unpopular with minorities.

Because they are for the upper class and generally, GENERALLY, minorities tend to be middle to lower class. Republicans are rich assholes who like to give "taxcuts" what they do is they average everyones income and then they cut it down the middle. well, this works out for them and their rich friends at the oil rigs b/c the top 1% people in America make 90% of all of the money. They simply dont care about minorities (take a look at Katrina, how do you think that would have played out had it been a bunch of rich, white , soccer moms in the superdome?)

Just a guess here; they mostly think the minorities issues (like most issues) should be handled by existing federal law and the individual state. I'm not republican but pretty sure those are the facts.

Speak for yourself.
There have been too many debates that prove nothing, too much time wasted for a Presidential Election that is 14 months away. Our elected official should be doing the job they were elected to do at this point, not running around the country looking like a bunch of jackasses.

Well, I am republican and I give a crap about minorities. So, its unfair to say that we all don't care. I didn't read the article, but I am pretty sure that a lot of it was false. I really have a hard time believing much of anything that comes out in the press.
