It was suggested by my mum that as Cognitive Behavioural Therepy had limited effect on me (got me off prozac after 10 years but still have horrendous depressive episodes) and I know what the cause of it all is (stuff from when I was a kid) maybe I should see a hypnotherapist to try and see if they can do something to "block" the negative stuff. Oh and PLEASE DO NOT TELL ME TO TRY RELIGION!! I've tried most of them and never found one I could actually believe in. I respect your views that you believe there is a God, etc. etc. so please respect the fact that I don't believe in such things.

I've found this to be a problem with therapy too, they can help you understand the roots of your problem, but do nothing to show you how to get rid of the negative emotions that are attached to those memories. NO, hypnosis will not work, because the mind will only do what it wants to do, not necessarily what you want it to. And obviously your intellect uses your mind to control you and keep control of you, causeing your depression.
Happened to me for thirty some years....but I found a program that worked miracles for me, taught me how to release all that negativity and live a serence and happy life.
It may work for you as well.....doesn't cost a thing to check it out.

I experienced all of the issues you stated, then some, and I found relief not through Hypnotherapy but through God. I found a Christian church in my area and discussed my issues with the pastor. I started attending church, reading the Bible, joined a Christian men's fellowship group, attended Bible study, and prayed, praying is just talking to God as your best friend. I was born with a chemical imbalance and still take several depression medications but I feel a lot better than I did in the past. With God all things are possible. Jesus died on the cross for our sins and I have learned when Im in trouble and facing what look like impossible situations I run to the cross not away from the cross. I will keep you in my prayers and God Bless you and your loved ones.

u know in some cases, it really isnt even depression. Look at the underlying problem...i know that low level thyroid or high tyroid can cause depression so have your thyroid levels checked, also it could be hormone imbalance. eat loadsa fish and try St Johns Wort...it may be hard at 1st but you no longer need anti depresants i heard but it will get wrse for 1st 3 wks and then get better. ppl say its good. Also try homeopathy meds to help ease the moods. are you reaching menapause? it could be hormone related all this time. if ur on contraceptive pills, then the thyroid test will show all is good coz hormones are gunna show right so no point if ur on contraceptives BUT if u arent or u really wanna knw what it is, then get off the contraceptives for upto 4-5 mnths to get out of system and then have a thyroid test done. That mayb ethe cause of depression. NHS docs just say its depression and give u tablets to calm the nerves dwn and make u feel high but its good if u can identify the underlying reason. Go swimming/yoga/gym/walks in park/ a jog in the morning/socialising and joning clubs. will be good for you. good luck and good health.

Reality doesn't hang on what you believe in. I wonder how you can believe in and trust hypnotism if you don't believe in either positive or negative paranormal forces which is a necessary ingredient for effective auto-hypnotism. If on the other hand you believe in paranormal or esoteric forces, then you do believe in a kind of God but are deluded into believing that you don't believe in God. If you think I am not serious, just watch the last episode of Harry Potter and ask yourself why certain scenes do certain things to your psyche. Maybe should adopt different approach - don't try religion; believe in Jesus Christ.

Some thyroid disorders can be cured, but many require lifetime treatment. Learn here https://tr.im/WwraQ
For example, sometimes early stage thyroid cancer can be cured by surgery to remove the thyroid gland, but you will need to take thyroid hormone medication afterwards for the rest of your life. Goiters can also be surgically removed and do not always recur after surgery. In most cases, thyroid disorders need treatment over a lifetime. However, with treatment most people with thyroid disorders can live normal, healthy lives.

i'll tell everyone to try yoga. now yoga alone won't miraculously cure your depression, but it will definitely help. i can almost promise you that it will boost your self-esteem. you just need to stick with it. the first few times you try it you may feel frustrated, bored, unhappy, anxious, etc, etc. but if you try it for a couple of weeks you will start to see results.
