Since a hit piece was carefully crafted. Until then Popular Mechanics had no creditability regarding such things as politics, engineering or anything related to the 9-11 inside job discussion. Its a lot easier to slap some guy on tv with well placed lighting and carefully crafted backdrops and give him credibility, then to give experts in the field of physics and engineering the chance to speak the truth.

"Most trade journals are nothing but advertisements and articles which are thinly disguised advertisements.

Popular Mechanics has always been a 'serious' magazine in that they are serious about the entertainment that they supply. All magazines are about entertainment." Exactly, well thought out illusions and distractions put in place by teams of marketing masterminds and social engineers. Believe me organizations of the like are very well verse at reading the trends of the peon masses

If you were writing a paper about the unfulfilled promises of nuclear power you would certainly include references from both Reader's Digest and Popular Mechanics - they reflect the feelings of the times.

I give them a lot more credence than I do the doctored up videos and some movie directors. I guess that since many of the myths have been exposed, they are not credible. Right?

I believe they are well-respected in their field, and have a good reputation as being authoritative in their area of expertise.

Whether the topics they cover are "important" or not is a matter of opinion, I suppose.

But all else being equal I personally would rather drive over a bridge designed by engineers who were regular readers of that magazine than one designed by those who were not.
