It will make tasks complete faster especially photo software and games. I went from 1gig to 2gig but did not notice much difference. but going from 256 to 1gig you will notice a big improvement

Upgrading from 256MB to 1GB RAM will make an enormous improvement to your PC. Everything will load quicker, any work you do ie Office etc or photo apps will run quicker and smoother too. But before you upgrade, get the right RAM specifications for your motherboard as sometimes a simple upgrade, just taking RAM mem modules out and upgrading to over 500MB with 1 or 2 mem modules, you may find your PC wont boot properly freezing at the first MS Window screen. Even though your BIOS has indicated a success and 1GB has been recognised in the BIOS settings. So get the recommended RAM specs for your own motherboard. Occasionally even then the same will happen. I have come across this problem many times and the only solution I have found is to do a complete re-install of the OS with the 1GB RAM installed. This is just a quirk on some motherboards and for over 2 years I have never received an adequate explanation or solution. Sorry to be a bummer, but just warning in case this problem happens to you.

You'll see a vast improvement from 256 meg. The PC speed will go way up. Graphics are dictated more by the speed and memory of the graphics card, but yours sound quite good.

The problem might be something other than memory though. Run a spyware program. Do a defrag. Something like TuneUp utilites is good at detecting and correcting programs.

Also, if the PC is getting on, reformatting and installing again from scrath is a very good idea. You'd notice the difference there straigh away!

Given you started with 256 MB of RAM, increasing by 1 GB should offer a decent performance increase, especially for memory intensive tasks.

Now for your graphically intense games, the increase in system memory will only offer a partial performance improvement. Are you using shared memory for an on-board video card or do you have a dedicated video card? If you have an on-board card, consider bumping up the amount shared to the video to the maximum allowed by the motherboard. If you have a dedicated card, the video lag in games may still remain as the memory on the video card is separate from the main system RAM.

As for the crashing, increasing the RAM may not resolve that problem. It sounds like you may have a configuration issue with your system or possibly a hardware problem.

the 1gb upgrade will make a massive difference to the overall performance of your p.c,especially since you were previously using just 256mb
the extra memory will not really make your games graphics any better but the games may run a bit smoother ,and will start quicker aswell
the main change will be the all round behaviour of your p.c,with more memory your p.c will be much more smoother and this will help avoid all these system crashes
256mb running windows xp is really just on the borderline so the extra 1gb will be a releif to your p.c and yourself
good luck mate!

It will make a huge difference. 256MB is way too low for just about everything these days. You will see an increase in speeds with graphical games, but don't expect too much. Games are affected by the graphics card more than RAM. Enjoy

A lot. But it depends on what your computer as a whole will handle also. It sounds like your computer may have more problems than the memory. Check your cooling system and maybe replace your fans. If it keeping resetting and crashing it may be too hot to run and the memory you ordered doesnt help you there. Beyond your fans needing replaced, you may want to take it to a repair shop to diagnose the problem.

Indeed, it will make a huge difference.
But... also take care of the setup of your operating system,
crashing and resetting aren't allways are a result of little memory. After installing, deleting, reinstalling several programs PC's also tend to get slow...

your computer will be faster in every thing but if you wanna too gaming with you have to upgrade you CPU and Graphic card. Upgrading RAM is O.K for that but not enough.
you don't say any thing about your CPU and VGA so i can't say any thing about gaming but I'm sure your computer do every thing faster.

it will make programs run smoother and a bit quicker. but you wont see much difference until u upgrade your processor and graphics card.

get yourself a 3.0ghz processor minimun and an ati x1950 or nvidia 7900 graphics card as a minimum and you will see imorved performance all round.
