Discuss the complexity of life of those who lived in the Western Hemisphere before Europeans "invaded."

I don't want an answer to the question, I would just like to know what they mean by "the complexity of life." Does that mean how hard things were for them? I'm just confused. Thanks!

Native Americans, when the Europeans came to the Americas were a complex social group, having more than just "Chiefs and Medicine" people (yes, some of the medicine people were women! There were warrior societies, group decisions affecting the Tribes/Nations were made in Council, usually by a respected Chiefs who had exhibited wisdom and bravery and other tribal members who were skilled artesian or traders. Not every tribe member hunted or farmed, some were skilled in implement manufacture. Others were artists, dancers and story tellers were greatly respected as their history was often oral rather than written. Oh, yes, there were Engineers, astronomers, and other scientists as exhibited in the Inca and Maya ruins. Societies were complex indeed, much as society is today.

This refers to their social structure and the difficulties they faced in everyday life. I argue that historians frequently discredit the native people of the Western Hemisphere as uncultured and uncivilized. Although they had a different social structure than the European model at the time, people living in the Western Hemisphere had a complexity of life that was every bit as difficult, subtle, and nuanced as that of the European invaders; it was just different from what we are commonly accustomed to.

I think what they mean by "comlexity of life" is nearly the whole kit and kaboodle: how the people made a living, what they lived in, dressed in, how they cooked, hunted, gathered, fished, farmed... etc. Oh, and also how tribes fought each other and where they wandered. I'll let it all rest here. Who knows, I could be wrong, but I don't think so. At least not yet!

THINK ABOUT THE NATIVE POPULATION THE AMERICAN INDIAN AND WHAT HIS LIFE WAS LIKE PRIOR TO AND AFTER THE ARRIVAL OF THE WHITE SETTLERS. IT WAS PRETTY BASIC; GET ENOUGH TO EAT, A PLACE TO LIVE, A WOMAN TO BE ABLE TO PASS ON YOUR SELF, AND LOOK OUT FOR THE GUY HIDING BEHIND A TREE WAITING TO DO YOU IN. BUT IF HE MISSED, HE MOVED ON. THE SETTLERS WERE HERE TO STAY. THEY TOOK THE LAND WHICH CONFUSED THE INDIAN BECAUSE HE JUST DIDN' T UNDERSTAND HOW SOME ONE COULD OWN LAND. YOU WERE BORN AND USED THE LAND UNTIL YOU DIED AND SOMEONE ELSE USED IT FOR A WHILE. ETC
