said about General Petraus was wrong. The term "Betray Us" all but call him a traitor, and he is one of the most decorated soldiers in this country. I was just wondering if any Democrats could stand back and say, "Okay, that is going too far".

Looks like the answer is no.

P.S. John Kerry was a coward. Swift boat veterans made comments about Kerry based on first hand witness statements about his actions. If you can't see the difference between that and an unfounded attack on a highly decorated General prior to giving a report, based solely on the unfounded assumption that Bush forced the General to say something untrue... I just dont' know what to say to liberals anymore. There are no more lines that are considered too far for a liberal to go to promote the Democratic cause.

I don't think most democrats realize the kind of power that group has within their party. Some may think it was wrong but only a few said anything about it........

To Spirish_1:

Actually many Republicans did disapprove of some of the Swift boat accusations, and went on those TV political talk shows and made a specific statement saying they honored John Kerry's service and thought of him as doing nothing less then serving honorably.

I think the attack on Petraeus' character by Moveon.org was bad form. It does nothing to really help their cause.

That being said, General Petreaus presented a dishonest report that runs counter to the General Accounting Office and their report on the effectiveness of the surge. The death numbers were skewed so that he could show some improvement in Sectarian violence. The same numbers of people are dying they are just being counted in different groups now.

It's a matter of Generals shouldn't get involved in politics while serving in the armed forces. When they do, they open themselves up to ridicule. Personally, I don't believe they said enough, it's pretty obvious the the President went to Iraq to drum up support through a pep rally, as the actual report(s) don't jive with General Petruss' profound excusifying. Now, Bush tries to 'sell' a troop withdrawl, but there isn't going to be one, in fact, it's about to increase, apparently.

"Troops may not shrink to pre-surge level By ROBERT BURNS, AP Military Writer

WASHINGTON - Even with cutbacks promised by President Bush, the United States may wind up with thousands more troops in Iraq next summer than before the buildup of forces he ordered in January.

Bush approved the redeployment of five Army combat brigades and three Marine contingents between now and July 2008, but that does not account for thousands of support forces — including military police and an Army combat aviation brigade — that were sent as "enablers" and that apparently will stay longer."

I can honestly say I've never visited the site, nor do I really care what they have to say. They do not represent the majority of liberals or Democrats. If they had wanted to say that the General, by towing the line and saying what the administration wanted him to say was betraying the country and the troops under his command, I'm sure they could have done it in a more diplomatic manner.

"No I liked it. Generals are mean. They kill people and that's bad."

they kill peopel to make sure you are not killed

"I really see no difference between this and the GOP's assassination of John Kerry via the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth"

Then open your eyes
the swift boat veterans have no power in there party. You are completely insane to equate the power of swiftboat veterans to Moveon.

Moveon.org is the power of Democratic party. Any democratic canditate that steps out of line will get treated like Joe Liberman.run out of office. yhe allready said if you say anything pro war they will have a more liberal candiate challange your seat

It may have been wrong but they were entitled to say it.

Did all the right wing conservatives think it was wrong when the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth called John Kerry a liar and a coward? I think not. They cheered.

Well, see for yourself:
http://pol.moveon.org/petraeus_ad.html

That's the reasoning behind their ad. I agree. Anyone who is charged with the well being of the armed forces of the United States during wartime and instead allows the current political regime to pull his strings by placing his name and face on cooked reports (assasinations only count if you're shot in back of the head? car bombs don't count as violence) is, in fact, betraying the very troops in his charge.

This war, this regime, and now this general are a national disgrace.

Support the troops- bring them home!

Hey that's politics is about the only quote I could find from the Dem side of the aisle. Then again the polls haven't come out from their base of party voters yet, so they can't do anything til the poll tells them if they should or shouldn't say something against it.

Skelton is the lone Dem I know of who spoke out rather quickly.

However, this in no way negates the fact that Soros directs the upper management of the Democratic Party.

Not exactly democracy at work.
