RE:
Where's the cheapest place to buy Euros in the U.S. (San Jose, CA)?

If you need Euros, I assume you are about to travel to Europe.

I'd recommend not to get Euros in the US. There are fees, delays, bad exchange rates, etc.

The best way I've found is to use your ATM/Debit card in Europe. Especially if your bank has a correspondence bank in Europe. Check with your home bank to find out if they have one and which one it is. You get a GREAT exchange rate, there are no fees and it is really convenient.

I just purchased some through a bank.
Thery don't have them in stock,, but ordered them through the Federal Reserve bank.
The fee was a flat $ 15.00 and that included delivery by DHL to my home.
(Rec'd them the next day)
((Wachovia Bank, Fed Res bank of Philadelphia)

Have you tried American express??

the answer that STP Abroad gave is exactly right- buy them when you get wherever you're going from a bank that, hopefully, has a "sister" bank there. We did this with pounds in England this summer and it worked wonderfully well.

Withdraw cash from the ATM Street machines. That way you can avoid carrying bulk money and withdraw a few hundred at a time when required. There is a commision but it was reasonable.
