If you believe, will you do a favor for me(and the world)? Let's cure AIDS together by believing there's a cure. If we all put out the message that everyone can be healed, the healing will happen soon.
There's a little girl in South Africa waiting for this cure, so let's hurry up and create it through the power of positive thinking.
Who's with me?

Thanks, Mr. Taco, for your insight, although I could have doe without some of the hostility.
Please don't believe for a second that this is all I'm doing for that little girl. This is simply one part of my journey in saving her, and I thought I'd reach out and try to get as many people in on this movement as possible.

Thanks so much, guys. Things are a little complicated right now, but in two years I can go to South Africa and start playing a more active role in fighting HIV. Let's keep praying and putting out positive energy.
What the intentions behind "The Secret" books and movie is beyond my concern; I simply know that many people know the Law of Attraction by that name, so I included it in my question.
Regardless, I believe that even the few of you who have already agreed to help are already helping to change the world.
Thank you so much.

As much as I believe in the secret, I also believe you only have power over yourself.

I don't know about the "Law of Attraction," but I do know about "The Secret." Personally, I think Rhonda Byrnes ought to be prosecuted for this trash. For one thing, she has plagiarized so many writers that it is amazing she is not being sued by a dozen other self-help book authors. For another thing, her theory is full of it. She even went so far to suggest that people in Rwanda could have avoided being murdered had they just thought more positively. Furthermore, based on her point of view, you can tell a child it is their fault if their mother died of cancer. "Sorry, honey, but I guess you weren't positive enough." It is sick. No one should buy this witch's book and support her filth.

Don't get me wrong. Positive thinking is a good thing. It makes you better able to deal with your problems, and it CAN make you more successful. Byrnes takes it too far, suggesting you can change the world around you. Her evidence is totally anecdotal, simply ignoring the mountain of evidence that proves it wrong. A simple analogy can bust her theory. Say ten people arrive at a parking lot, and there is one good spot left. Say all ten of them are POSITIVE with ALL THEIR HEARTS that they will get that spot. Will all ten of them get it? No. Of course not. BUT... the person who did can go around all day and say, "See? I was positive, and I got the spot. That proves it works."

Rhonda Byrnes is that person who happened, through positive thinking somewhat, but mostly through hard work and dumb luck, to get that good parking spot. Sure, it is easy for her to say it works. She got lucky and wrote a best-selling book. If you buy it, however, you're just supporting another con-artist who is using her success to take advantage of people going through difficult times. That's the last thing our society needs. I think people like this rank right up there with rapists and child molesters. Yuck.

That said, I admire your intentions here. You're obviously a good person who wants to help people, and that is never a bad thing. For that matter, positive thinking is a good thing, too! Regardless, I think there are more active, effective, and useful ways to help little girls in Africa rather than sitting around hoping for the best and not doing anything. It's a cheap way to make yourself feel less guilty. Get out there and do some volunteer work or raise some money!

I'm as spiritual as any other person and in full belief that what energy you put out you will get back. (I also do energy healing and all that other stuff...just so you all know where I'm coming from.)That's not saying you need to be positive ALL the time. Hey, we all have those days when it seems like nothing goes right. The other thing is seeing your attitude about accepting things into your life.
However, I hated the feeling of The Secret. I never watched it because it sounded terrible. It's just your average LOA rules. It just felt like someone got greedy and decided to take these LOA ideas and package them up themselves to make money off of it. Sorry, but that was just my feeling of that whole "Secret" phenomena.
However, I'm all for sending out positive energy and prayers and healing to those who need it. Sign me up. I'm just not for packaging ideas for the sake of just making money off of it.

I believe in the law too. But I haven't yet read "The Secret".

But eventhough all the people in the world put in their energy to cure the girl, without the girl's permission, it is impossible to heal her. The girl has to choose to be healed. The girl's soul agenda must agree to our agenda, which is for her to live her life without bearing the disease. We don't know what is her soul's purpose. We are not sure whether by bearing the disease, she intends to make a difference in the world.

The girl also must believe that it is not natural for her to have that disease. She should agree that the natural state of her body is without disease. She should have confidence in herself that her body is capable of healing itself if only she would "will" to.

This is the reason why Jesus did not heal everyone who was sick during his time, eventhough he is very much capable of healing them. He only healed those who asked to be healed; only those who gave their permission to be healed. It is actually the healed themselves who healed themselves.

Right on sister.... but. I thought "The Secret" was ridiculous, it is just positive thinking. Those authors and therapist that put there two cents in should come up with something more original.

Science only goes so far, then there's God.

I'm with ya.

Edit: Although I have to say, as a scientist by trade, I've seen some pretty ravenous things that not even positive thinking can touch....... so, it's a craps shoot! ;-)

".....And THIS would be why this question is in the philosophy section!!"
