Wow, Wikipedia is really getting people off the track again.
Cracking corn has a verbal meaning relative of corny as in inflated tales or jokes.
So, the narrator speaks of Jimmy making a tall tale or joke of the master's death. The blue tail or blue bottle fly has always been attached to death.
The jury has already stated that the "blue tail fly" killed the master, so the narrator has no reason to care what Jimmy says.

the song doesn't actually say no one cares, it says " i don't care ".......so there was probably a few who DID care, who knows!!!!
