Chromosomes are reservoirs of DNA. Many segments of DNA are transcribed into RNA. Some are translatable and others are non translatable. They go to the cytoplasm, and from the information of messenger RNA, proteins are produced which perform diverse functions, one of them being enzymes that catalyze biochemical reactions to run the metabolic engine of the cell.
