I go to a local nursing home and volunteer. I help with crafts, bingo, push wheelchairs, water flowers, mostly just sit and talk with them. Some are very lonely and have no one. For this you don't need any medical experience. If there was something you wanted to do and needed training there, they could help you with that. Many times various volunteer work I've done has turned into a regular job. Just always remember to ck with nursing staff before you give them any thing to eat, drink, go outside, etc.
I think it's wonderful you want to do this.

When I was a teen I helped out on meals on wheels and had a really good time helping. There were a few grumpy ones but the majority where just happy to for the help and to see us everyday
Try volunteering in the kitchen or craft rooms of a nursing home. My daughter did this and had a good time. This might even led to a job there. Give it a go anyway I'm sure you will love it.

There is so much you could do in a nursing home or hospital. Especially if the patients, residents, clients etc. are far away from home !!! I had to go into a Health and Rehabilitation center for extensive Physical and Occupational Therapy for 3 months. I was in the hospital a mouth before that. Both were far from my home and family. They could only come on weekends. I was so lonely and homesick !!!! At least I had my family so I am not complaining !! But a lot don't !!! Call around to your local Nursing Homes and ask to speak with the Activities Director. Tell them you want to volunteer !!!! I have also work for a school system with their Programs For Exceptional Children !!! Talk about rewarding !!!! Whatever you decide to do will be just as rewarding to you as it is to them !!! I guarantee !!!! God bless you and yours !!!!

Gal you are a bright star in dim lit sky.
I have been doing Volunteer work for years. The field is open to a true young volunteer, and it.s like having a first job
I don't know your age,but nursing homes are always looking for teens to help out
Senior centers are looking for helper's in there
meals on wheels. The adult drives.and the runner
takes the meals up to the door. You are given
a free meal
Other volunteer jobs may require you learn CPR and a class in first aid. This would show the adults
that you are searise.
Girl scouts have a better chance, but it's not the age,but the desire to help.
Try the Red .Cross.or start your own Volunteer
club.
The law sets hours.and type of work you can do.
I do wish you the best of work, and don't get
discourage.

Google "volunteer opportunities" or "volunteering" and add the name of your city. You will come up with hundreds of organizations that need help. Or, you can also check with your local senior center and ask them for help. They may have a list of places that need volunteers. Or, pick a skilled nursing facility near you and ask if you can volunteer. I volunteer at the local Veteran's Hospital which was a good place for me to start.

Interim Healthcare is a national company that provides this kind of service. http://www.interimhealthcare.com/about/
I'm sure there are others where you're located that provide homecare/personal care/companion/homemaker services. Look in the yellow pages under some of those descriptions and see what companies are in your area. The American Cancer Society is also a great organization that needs volunteers. http://www.cancer.org/docroot/home/index.asp They work with all ages of consumers, employees and volunteers. Good luck and best wishes.

You could do that at a nursing home or hospital and even at schools. All these places like folks to help out like that. Just go ask one of these places. Once there, you need to learn the rules as to who can do what, but all in all it is for the most part very easy stuff to do.

We have a Senior Citizens Club in my town. Sometimes called Council For Aging. I recently started volunteering there and I love it. They always can use more help. You don't need medical experience. I work in their sandwich shop and answer phones when needed.

You said you did not want anything medical, does that include volunteering in a hospital? Like bringing mail to people.bringing the book mobile.escorting people to xray etc. Go down to any nursing home and feed the pts at mealtime, help them write letters, talk to them so many never get visitors.Go to a womens shelter and see if they need you to babysit, some shelters don't want outside help. Go into nursery, kindergarten schools and be an assistant help kids on and off with clothing, open their milk cartons, help them with crayons etc, read stories to them. Hope that helps.
