He should have stayed at Stanford. He knew what was expected of him at Notre Dame and that was win every year, not 1 out of 3 years. He just got greedy and used Stanford as a steping stone then paid the price. All other Notre Dame coaches that did not win were fired also.Imagine if it was LSU they would do the same.

As an Irish fan I couldn't agree more. I never liked Ty from the day he took over for Davie. I didn't see much of an upside or upgrade however you'd like to put it. Willingham just doesn't care about wins or losses he would rather get these kids through school which is great. The only problem is he is a coach not a guidance counselor and coaches are judged by wins and losses and when it comes to that he sucks. He is nothing more than a guidance counselor that stands on the sidelines on Saturdays.

I am rooting for him. Not just because he got a raw deal at ND but also because if he succeeds while Charlie is failing it sends a message to the ND athletic department and fans. And that message is "Really, you dumped Willingham for this guy!"
Too often teams aren't willing to wait long enough for a coach to build a program. How many times in college and the NFL have we seen coaches contend or win championships with predominately the previous coaches recruits? ND was chomping at the to get Weis before they hired Willingham and his inability to build a contending program quickly was an excuse to chuck him when they could get Weis. And for what, to watch him win with Willingham's recruits and flop with his own. Good move.
Sorry, got a bit long winded there, but this kind of thing really works me up!

I luv Ty Willingham
but not this week I think the buckeyes are just to strong
but I do believe Ty is one of the better coaches and I usually root for them (just not this week) I definatley think that washington will be in the top 4 in the Pac 10
I think Ty is better at recruiting than Charlie, as far as coaching they are about even I guess

Hey I'm a PAC 10 fan, so i know all about Ty Willingham, he was a great coach at Stanford but Bail out to go to Notre Dame, he was exceeding expectation in his first year at Notre Dame, making a BCS bowl but got blown out in the BCS bowl by Oregon St. In his second year his record was OK, but Notre Dame expected more and by his third year, at the end of that season he was let go by Notre Dame, but i though, it was too soon, he didn't get the chance to turn around the program yet, it's was unfair to him. Now Charlie Weis is the coach, and i don't see him doing any better, this is Weis 3rd season and he's gonna have a losing record, worst than Willinghams, but he's gonna get to keep his job and see's this program thru. But for Ty Willinghams, he was fire by his 3rd season and have a better record than Weis is and that's a raw unfair deal he got from Notre Dame. Well, for this Saturday match up against the Buckeyes, Washington will prevail over the Bucks, the Bucks is way overrated for their top 10 ranking. Washington will expose the Bucks, as an overrated team and beat'em at home, the Huskies is a much improve team from last year under Ty Willinghams.

Yeah, it would be cool if UW had a top notch program, under Willingham. Notre Dame's problem will always be scheduling. they always schedule hard schedules, because they belong to no conference. If they belonged to a conference you'd see them scheduling people like South-Central-Western-Kentucky-Polytechnic-Institute (made that one up, but you know what I mean ifyou watch any non-Notre Dame collegiate team) ... They should probably join the Big East, since they're half in it now. That would help the Big East by making up for those losses a couple years back, and would help Notre Dame because they'd have a built in conference schedule to work with.

He was given a very poor deal at Notre Dame and - after Washington defeat Ohio State tomorrow - he will be receiving the respect he deserves by the national media. He is a class individual who runs clean programs & truly believes that athletes should be students.
And at the start of next season, Ty is going to have the team poised for a solid Top Ten pre-season ranking.

I don't mind Willingham and actually think he is a good coach. I do only cheer for him a few games a year though. I am a Cal fan so I really only cheer for UW when they play USC and anyone ranked ahead of Cal. I also root for him in bowl games. It is nothing against him, I just can't really root for UW because wins for them can hurt my team. It was unfair of ND to fire him when they did, but sometimes that is just how the sports world works.

I'm certainly rooting for him this week.
Personally, I don't get to watch Washington at all, and his time at ND was full of hype swung one way or the other....
I can't say that I'm rooting for him more than anybody else....but he doesn't seem like a prick from what I've seen....so

No. Not only did he screw up ND's program but he destroyed what little program Stanford had. Worthless as a coach, unless you like losing.
