My laptop's screen recently quit working. It turned off suddenly after working fine. I thought it was my laptop but it turned on momentarily but then when I moved my screen, it turned back off, so I'm quite confident there's a problem in the connection between the computer itself and the lcd screen. Does anyone know how much this costs to repair? Do you have to take it to a qualified person or is it easy enough that a computer knowledgable person could do it?
I have a Toshiba Satellite M30 - purchased at the end of 2004.

Depends. The screen has a short, delicate cable, usually on the left side, then ends in a plug that plugs into the motherboard. This is all hiding under your hinge covers.

If you are lucky, the plug is a bit loose, and pushing it farther in will fix your problem. If you are not lucky, then the cable is bad, and you will have to replace the lcd screen.

If you are handy. you can probably do it yourself. If you are unconfortable taking yoiur laptop to pieces, you may want to have a repairman look at it.

Lucky for your this repair is quite easy. On most laptops I've seen and worked on (Satellite's not one of them) there is usually a little plastic that comes off easily that reveal this connection you speak of. It's just above the F2 and F3 keys on the keyboard. You will want to look for a repair manual online for a Satellite, but this is likely where it will be. You can check the connection to see if it is intermittent, and securely put it back. If that isn't the case and the cable is bad, you won't want to do any soldering. You'll probably want to consult a professional.

If it is under warrenty then it cost nothing. If you do it your self then it cost nothing. If you take it to a computer specialist it could cost a lot.
