There are many external hard drive and external storage options available. You can regularly back up to CDs or DVDs if you have a burner, floppies or USB stick if that's all you have access to, or you can buy an external hard drive that connects (usually via USB) to your computer. The external hard drive should come with software that will help you create an "image" of your internal hard drive that can be used to restore/recover. If you have a large enough hard drive you can partition it and create an image on the new partition. Or, if you have the space in your machine (desktop pc) you can install an extra internal drive.

Yes. It is called an external hard drive

Get an external drive which plugs into one of your USB ports. They normally require no set up (just plug them in and they are ready to go), can be moved from PC to PC (whould have have more then one PC or want to move huge amounts of files) and relatively cheap (got a 500 gig one for under $70 - after a $60 instant rebate).

Once attached, you simple drag anything you want to back up over to a folder on the external drive. Done.

There are a couple ways to save your info. You could spend more money on an external hard drive that will plug in to your USB port. You can spend less money and buy a flash drive. It also plugs into your USB hub, but is allot less storage (around two gig). Or you could save your info to a CD or DVD-R (burn it to a disk) There are also internet sites that save info such as File Crunch.com. I think you can get a gig for free

A large USB jump drive will work, but for the most storage capacity, purchase a portable hard-drive. You can buy then practically anywhere computers are sold and the sales associates at the store should be able to help you figure out exactly what kind and size would best fit your needs.

Most portable hard disks are in the the area of 2.5 in. diameter internally. They can, most,be formatted and,or partitioned in the same fashion as your desktop.Normally the reason to partition a external or portable hard disk is if you plan on using a dual boot system from the hard disk along with normal storage.Otherwise, most are "plug&play" type.Storage size depends on what your main interests are.Hope this helps some.

Flash drives.

With them up to 16GB, they can pretty well handle most files etc.

If you need something bigger, consider installing a second internal HD, or an external HD to be safe.
