there are idiots in internet world unfortunately, and many of them have got nothing better to do all day than send people emails and all sorts of other rubbish that you can send people thru a computer & other mobile devices.
most 'email providers' have a special folder for it, that allows you to send it straight to the spam folder without opening it first. You are given an option as to which way you want to do it, but as a basic guideline I was always told if you dont recognise the name dont open the mail. Some firms send silly mail too. Again, the same rule of thumb could apply there too, If you dont recognise it, dont open it.
Basically I have one email address that I use for things and people that Im not too concerned with and another that only goes to friends and people I want to hear from. Most of the mail that goes to the 'unspecial address' gets deleted anyway. ALL the mail that comes to the special email address is from people I know, who I trust not to send me anything silly.
Its just a case of being a bit observant & very careful.

Spam is emails and things that you dont want they go into ur computer trying to sell u something

Spam on a computer is email coming from people whom you do not know. They are usually trying to sell something to you.

Usually in email form, but also in chat rooms/forums when people will post adverts for stuff it's called spam.
