My son who works would like to train as a plumber but he can't afford the college course ,however a friend of mine son who has been convicted of a fraud and been punished ,lost his job because of this, has now been awarded a grant under some criminal rehabilitation act (which he does not have to pay back) to allow him to retrain as a plumber and this grant covers the full cost of the course.

Life sucks. Get used to it and move on.

For any case, there will always be an exception.

Great.

My other half was the same, wanted to train as a driving instructor but could get no funding to help with the £2,000+ course fees.

We were also told that despite having a small baby we would not be eligible for council housing when we nearly lost our house to repossession as there are "no council houses available and the council prefers to house people in the private sector.

My mum lives on an estate and she has had paedophiles and murderers housed near her, on being released from prison. they are also given grants to "re-establish themselves" and pay for their re-training.

It seems that working hard and obeying the laws gets you nowhere. If my partner and I split up and I went to the council as a single mother I'd get everything given to me.

If he then committed a crime and went to prison he'd get the same.

He currently works 70 hours a week for minimum wage and gets nowhere for it and cannot even afford to better himself through re-training. What is the point?

the government does pay our criminals how come they get sky t.v in jail and can smoke in there? they even sue the people they mug or rob for being mentally damaged from the event the UK is pretty much messed up at the mo. Try and find your son another course which a college or uni will pay for they are about.

It's not just trades like that mate, if you want a good honest trade or career in this country, and you want to work hard, put back into society and live a dsecent life, you're screwed.

Commit a few crimes, go on the dole and do nothing and you live the life of riley.

You haven't been to South Africa lately have you. We have criminals for cops criminals for ministers and the whole works. Murders, car jacks ,robberies and you know what cops are not doing a darn thing. But wait let me not elaborate to much on all that.

I don't understand why your son cannot afford the college course. Have you contacted your local education department? Is he entitled to EMA?

Once both your son and his friend have qualified, it will be your son who gets the work. The lad with the criminal record will be blocked from working in lots of places.

This is the system in power.Suppress the eager honest people
and cover the cost of criminals. It is the same in education.Stop
educating the clever pupils to accommodate those who think school is only a filler before crime.

It starts way earlier than that.
Kids that are expelled from school get special treatment, hands-on workshops, even trips away to activity camps, while the rest of the good kids get nothing.
Totally sends the wrong message.

That's New Labour for you - mad policies and no sense in dealing with criminals. Crime pays in the UK that's why we attract hordes of foreign scum - as if we never had enough of our own!
