i got a rug from a friend of mine, it's a nice rug, but i think his dog must've peed on it a few times. Is there any product out there, that could get rid of the smell??

My mom does dog grooming and boarding and buys Odo-ban by the gallons!! I've used it at home and it is great. There are other products that work but for the number of dogs she has and it gets their odor out, you can imagine what it would do for messes from 1 or 2 dogs.

I would rent a RUG DOCTOR rug shampooer from the grocery/drug store and buy the pet stain/odor shampoo. It's not expensive and you can use it for 24 hours ! Shampoo the rug and make sure you can dry it out really well... Leave a fan out so it doesn't get mildew.... Check and see if it STILL smells.. If it does.. when the rug is dry sprinkle with baking soda and let it sit overnight ! Vacuum and sniff test rug !! Just covering an odor is just masking the problem... Trying to remove the stain will take care of the smell hopefully... You still might have a pro come out but, try this first.. Good luck

You can use Nature's Miracle or Anti-Icky Poo, both are sold at pet stores. Plain white vinegar also works. Completely saturate the spot and let it dry. It will not only eliminate the smell for you, but for animals as well, so if you have cats or dogs, now or in the future, they should not feel the need to soil the carpet.

Sprinkle baking soda on the rug, let that sit for an hour or so, then vacuum.

You may have to repeat a few times.
