Having known them over 2 decades, they pay their bills on time and the neighbors say they are quiet....lol, lol,
Really, I have only positive thoughts of this person - they just had the kind of childhood that caused some to chose another path....

This person is probably not a sociopath, but if they are you are coming to the conclusion that they are helping for non-selfish reasons. There may be long term plans in the making that you are not going to know about. They can con just about anyone and make you believe they are someone they are not. Don't ever think you have a sociopath figured out, it will just be a dead end or another trap, stay away. Take care, I know what I'm talking about.

Different people are affected in different ways from their environment! Having a devastating past, then turning out to be good is not unusual, rare but not unusual!
The story I like to tell is of a young man that was brought up in an alcoholic family all around him, everybody was a drinker, went to jail constantly, and were always in fights! Well this young man was brought up in this environment, and it had no effect on him whatsoever! He continued to be good, in spite of everyone picking on him, and would even go to church on his own, although was ridiculed by his relatives! They actually thought he was strange! He was strange , to them, nowadays I see him, and he is an active person in the church, is married with two kids, makes decent money, doesn't drink and doesn't cause trouble, and is good as gold as a friend!

The person you described is not a sociopath.
A sociopath has no conscience, and no sense of remorse. Every action can be justified.
The person you described is just a human being who is incredibly blessed to have overcome the crap from childhood.

Then they are not a sociopath. A sociopath may act kind, but s/he is not. Sociopaths do not have empathy. They don't believe in right or wrong.

Lucifer is a sociopath and psychopath. He has a thing for humans and God's creation. There are all kind of nice things like angels(human with wings), Saints(damned church leaders)rainbows, dreams, E.T. etc. Is Lucifer kind? Lucifer is trying to turn humans into a reflection of himself and perverting God's creation(humans). He is a psychopath and a sociopath(why humans have these conditions) and...........
he is being nice to fool us.
