I agree with Tiffany. Do you know what he is doing? Maybe something did happen to him and he has a connection with you still. I think if someone is thinking of you, that energy can travel a great distance and influence our subconcious.
He could have passed, been near to passing or simply thinking about you very strongly.
Don't ignore your dreams, but wait until something concrete comes to you in them. Try talking to him in your dreams and see if you can make contact. who knows, maybe you are sensitive.

Old lovers show up in dreams when you least expect them, and for the darndest reasons.
One reason may be that some of the issues that you broke up over may be re-appearing in your life from some other source, and your brain may be sending you signals about it.
Another may be that you may be getting into a new and unknown situation or environment in your life, and your old boyfriend might represent something familiar that, even though not positive, is something you know pretty thoroughly and know how to deal with.
Sometimes old loves show up in dreams just because there are things that you valued in the relationship that you miss, and the dreams are a way of wondering about what might have been, or what might happen if they showed up in your life once more.
The fact that you're spending so much time wondering and worrying about his dream appearances when you're awake is just another cue for him to show up in your dreams again.
Relax, acknowledge the fact that he's a part of your life experience for good or bad, say hi to him in your dream if you want to, and let it go at that.

Maybe there are feelings there that you just don't pay attention to...I had a similar situation, except he was never my boyfriend. I thought and dreamed about this boy I went to school with 5 years ago. I always told myself he was just a friend and nothing more. Last year I ran into him on myspace and we got back in contact and fell in love and we have been together for what will be a year tomorrow. I don't know...sometimes dreams are wierd and don't make sense...sometimes there is a meaning there, we just have to dig to find the answer.

You're dreaming of him because he represents an underlying issue that your unconscious mind is trying to make you aware of. Perhaps it's the "underlying issues" that you need to resolve.
How do you feel in the dream? What are you thinking about when you're "constantly thinking about him." Assess those thoughts, they'll probably give you better insight into what the dream is about.
Generally, the images and characters in our dreams are representational.

What probably happened is that one day something reminded you of him, so he came into your thoughts. At night, when your mind is at rest and rehashing the day, he flitted through your dreams. The next day, you remembered the dream and wondered why he was in your dreams. You thought about it some more trying to figure it out. So then he's in your dreams again. Then you become a little obsessed about it and try harder to figure it out. He's in your mind more because of trying to figure out why he's in your dreams, and you have a cycle. That's all. It doesn't mean a thing. Quit worrying about it and the dreams will stop.

Im know your not looking to get back together with him, but i think some where under all of those hard feelings, you still care. I myself went through that and now i am engaged and getting married to him.
But you can also have something that is bothering you, maybe it was something he did or said to you think back and if it is that i say call him up and just get all the frustration out and move on....

You spoke of "underlying issues." Perhaps one of those issues has arisen in some part of your life now. The fact that this issue is present has brought back the thoughts of your boyfriend. Once the issue is resolved, you will probably stop dreaming about him.
