I watched a lot of ESPN shows over the last few days. I heard some very good opinions. First of all there are people watching the offensive and defensive coaches all the time. Those men up in the boxes can see everything they do.The time it would take for it to get to the coach(Bill) and for him to get it to the players (QB). there isn't alot of time.
Also the camera man was caught before the 2nd half. Patriots did not get to see any of that tape. So how could we have cheated for any of the 2nd half. Maybe the Jets just stink!!!!
At first I was disappointed, then after hearing more about it I really don't see how it was possible to cheat. This was also the camera mans 2nd time being caught. I guess the punishment is fair, if there was no punishment it wouldn't look good for the NFL. If you can make a point out of a single player than you have to make a point of the whole team too, or it would send a message that what happened is O.K.

Yeah, I agree with it. To be honest, money-wise and draft-wise it was kind of harsh. But if this was involving the NCAA there would be investigations into whether this happened in other games and other seasons. And pretty much any season in which something like that was done would result in giving up any titles. So if we were comparing it to the NCAA's harsh guidelines the Patriots are getting off pretty easy. If that were the case there might be investigations into each season and the Patriots could possibly get stripped of all three of those superbowl titles.
So for all the Patriots fans whining about the punishment be glad that it wasn't worse.
The Patriots are a good team, but it shows how far Belicheck will go to win. He's a poor loser and pretty much anyone across the NFL could tell you that. Although most of them would never say that out of professionalism and sportsmanship that Bellicheck often doesn't display very well. He does tons of stuff that skirts the edge of football ethics.
One thing I keep hearing is that the video didn't help them in that game so it shouldn't go against them. It doesnt' have to help them in that game. If you are that competitive you are using it for future games, so if you play them in the playoffs or later in the year you can go back through the video and decipher the hand gestures then use that against them the next time you play them. The Jets gave New England a good scare last year. And Bellicheck doesn't particularly like Mangini. Bellicheck was thinking about future games or the playoffs. And anybody who is super competitive could figure that out. And if you decipher the video fast enough you could use it to your advantage in the 2nd half. So you would typically see a game where the game is close the first half and the team blows them away in the second half just like New England did that day.
Last year for the first round draft the Patriots last minute changed their draft choice to Lawrence Maroney to keep the Colts from getting him as a running back because they thought Indy was interested in him. I also don't like the attitude he takes when he plays other teams. He takes a childish attitude of we're going to beat them and stomp them in the ground and doesn't give the other team any respect. And then throws a minor temper tantrum if he loses.
I may be a Colts fan. And I know the rivalry between the Colts and and Patriots is well elevated. But none of the other teams are nearly as bad of sportsmen as the Patriots are. And I think the San Diego Chargers would definitely agree. The Steelers were agressive when they played the Colts but at least when they played us you see the other players helping the other teams players back up and giving respect to the other team at the end of the game.
And when the Patriots lost at home, the Patriot's fans weren't any better. I felt kind of sad for the Patriots when their fans started leaving the stadium at halftime and started booing their team last year against the Colts. The Patriots players talked about it after the game and how it disappointed them. But as they say, bad karma goes around. That's one thing I have to say about the Colts, they give each team that they play respect. They're a class act and they're a good model team. I don't say that mainly because they are just my home team. The Pacers in basketball are my home team and right now I'm ashamed of the way their players are acting. Almost everyday we hear about one of them getting in trouble with the law. That's just not so with the Colts players. They had one incident with Dominic Rhodes and they sent him right out the door for that. I wish other teams could be like that. Kids need good role models that don't cheat or do anything to win. Heck even here recently they named a new hospital after Peyton Manning for all of his contributions to the hospital.

I am disappointed because it hurts Belichek's credibility, not the team because they didn't do it. But, if you read the articles it is clearly being said that these actions are not uncommon and happen all the time. They are being made an example of and that's not fair. If it was one of the crap teams that got caught nobody would care. Yes the punishment is a bit harsh but I do agree that punishment is due.

I am a disappointed Patriots fan.
I know football is a business, and I know that winning is the bottom line. But the cost of cheating to the team's and the coach's professional reputation is devastating.
Not to mention, that cheating is wrong. We can't condemn the corrupt basketball referee or Barry Bonds in one sport and wink at Bill Belichick in another. What message is he sending to the country and all the young people who play the game?
Belichick's lack of integrity has hurt him, his team, and the NFL. It's disgraceful.

I don't agree with the punishment. The only reason the punishment was that tough was because they were trying to make an example of him. I mean I am okay with the first round draft pick but the huge fines are beyond me. I mean all teams cheat in one way or another no matter what anyone else thinks. I am not disappointed wtih the coach or the team. Video tapes or not they are still an awesome team with great coaches.

im disappointed with him!
i think that we should have been fined lose our draft pick but i also think the jets should have gotten the win! I mean now that we will be watched more carefully we will still win games im not worried about that at all! I just think that he went about it wrong and well videotaping is a little extreme!!

I've always hated the pats so this answer may be a wee bit ridiculous...
I think that now the pats aren't able to be cheating scum anymore, so now they will lose because I really don't think they have THAT much talent.
The punishment needs to be more, like stripping them of all their picks regardless.
