4 years for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing to become an RN and 2 years for the Master of Science in Nursing with a specialization in mental health.

You'll get better career advantages if your MSN leads to MH/Psych Nurse Practitioner certification.

Understand though, this is for a specialized advanced nurse. You can work in a mental health/psych unit as a general duty nurse with a 2 year Associate of Science in Nursing but won't have the same professional duties or income.

Hi, assuming you are in Britain you can enrol on a 3 year Diploma in mental health nursing to become a Registered Mental (Health) Nurse an 'RMN' - you would get a bursary as per many NHS studies; or you can go to university and study there for four years to do a Bachelors degree in Mental health nursing

Some universities give credits for work you have done at home with the Open University which would shorten the time taken to train.
