I thought all was going well??

On the day the White House released a new report showing scant military and political success in Iraq, President Bush met with Marines and said the gains being made in Iraq are allowing troops to come home.

"I told them about my speech last night. I told them that I'd listen very carefully to the recommendations of the military, in particular Gen. (David) Petraeus, and that the plan I announced was that ... based upon on the fact we're making enough success that we can begin bringing some troops home," Bush said, speaking to reporters Monday at the Marine base in Quantico, Va.

The White House told Congress Friday that Iraqi leaders gained little new ground on key military and political goals, a discouraging assessment a day after President Bush said progress justifies keeping a large U.S. military presence there.

4 years is not enough time to show more than one benchmark being met? You can't be serious??? But I bet your are.

Again, 4 years time is not enough? How much longer do you want?

But the question was, we were making pretty good progress last night, now we have made very little, why the change?

happy,

You still diddn't answer my question. I have family over there hon, and I want to see some kind of progress. Back in 2004, a certain General said Iraq was making substantial political progress. the night the President gave his speech, he said progress was being made. the next morning the White House said very little progress was being made. My question was which is it?

Bush has been playing a stalling game for years and he somehow hopes that we are stupid enough to fall for it yet again. We’re not. We all know that Iraq is a mess and that invading the country was a ridiculous venture.

Since Bush has no ideas of his own, he always refers to listening to the advice of the generals on the ground, until he replaces them. He has rejected all decent ideas and now just wants to play out the time until a new president takes over. It is a cowardly way of handling the fiasco that he has created.

The Iraqi gov't has met half the stated benchmarks, a far cry from "scant". Bush has said from the beginning that this conflict will take time measured in years, not months. It is not like wars we've been involved with in the past. Why can't you liberals understand this and be patient? You're all like a bunch of little children, wanting everything to go your way right now, refusing to wait for results.

And your timeline is? War takes time, and these are people not used to getting to have freedom. Stop whining, and try being proud of our troops, they are doing the job as fast as possible, apparently not fast enough for you though, maybe they'll apologize when they get home, geez!

And you want what, a silver bullet? This is going to take time. We want it over tomorrow so of course the progress made is going to appear minimal but at least there is progress.
