Yeah, I'd be really annoyed. I assume the day care you work at is offering you a discounted rate-will they offer to pay the difference between your babysitter cost and the daycare rate??

Do you think it's wrong she asked that? That is the question. If you can live with it and can afford a babysitter and don't mind it, then do it. Make sure however, your boss keeps up her end of the bargain since you are paying for someone to watch your child. Now, if you think you can afford to stay home the 6-8 weeks until your spot opens, then I would do that instead. But if your boss says the only way you can come back is to get a babysitter, then that is entirely up to you.

You're boss just wants you to come back to work. But how can you hire a babysitter if you need more money?
Ask a family friend to babysit her for 5-8 hrs a day.

Have an in-depth chat with your boss and ask her if you can bring your baby to work until the day-care spot is open. Explain your reasons firmly and request that she reconsider.

Tell your boss that you will return to work when there is a place for your baby. It is wrong for them to give away your spot.

How long have you been at the daycare? If its something you're interested in, and have a home for it, look in to starting your own in home and becoming certified.

Personally, when looking for daycare for our kids, I really liked that someone had experience and references first working in a large day care.
