Check with the agency that issues passports for your country. There may be a provision for infants where they don't need one until a certain age.

In Canada, I believe you need the birth certificate to get a passport, even for a baby. I think, from another one of your questions, that you live in Canada. This is what happens in Canada: at the hospital, you fill out a form, it is signed by your dr, and it is sent to the gov't by the hospital. This is the registration. The gov't should then send you a confirmation of the registration, as well as the application form for the birth certificate. Go directly to one of the offices if you can, and pay the express fee to get the birth certificate. When you get it, go again directly to the office and pay the express fee for the passport.

Do you have the hospital record of birth? Otherwise you should be able to to the county courthouse to get it in person. You know you'll need both parents there to get the passport, right?

BTW, I paid the express fee ($60 or so ) last week for my passport and got it back yesterday.
