We do everything possible for a Godless country like China that is truly evil; we owe them billions of dollars, they have a huge military capability our grand kids are going to confront and yet our Gov, does didly....about it.
Cuba on the other hand is not a bastion of democracy, our kind anyway, and we punish them daily. The people in Cuba rae not communist by ideology or action they do not have a choice. If we were to open up relations like we do with China Fidel would have moved to Miami and spent his last years drin king Mojitos and watching baseball games. For sure, they don't want the mafia to return and turn back the clock or have American hegemony over their soverienty...Welcome back a people that are very much like us.

I think you are the fool. This iformation regarding babies being killed because they were not boys is what I was told by more than one student from China . One in particular who was an excellent student, living with her only daughter in The USA until returning to China to practice medicine was candid and I belive truthful. I have no axe to grind with the Chinese people, it's like us and our Gov. Most Americans are fairly good people. We want our kids to be educated and live out thier lives in harmony. So complain to the Chinese dictators or go there and help with human rights. The question was why the disparity between two communist countries in our trade policy, sanctions, etc. Get it?

Short answer: money. China offers enormous profits for special interests--mostly at the expense of American workers.
Cuba, on the other hand, has two strikes against it. One is tha tthe embargo keeps Cuban sugar off the US market--enabling the US sugar cartel to keep prices artificially high. The other is that the old-guard "refugees within the Cuban community (i.e. the members of the Batista dictatorship who escaped justice at the hands of the Cuban people) still have a influence within the Cuban community--and that helps keep Florida a "Red State"-in exchange for maintaining the embargo (this bunch seems to be underthe delusion tha tan embargo that hasn't wdorked in 45 years wil somehow topple Csastro and enable them to return to power).

Where in the hell do you get it that China kills babies after birth?
Nothing could be further from the truth. Children are highly regarded in China and for the government to kill children would be unthinkable.
Please provide a link that proves china kills its children.
Did you know that China is a religious country that has freedom of religion, despite what Bush says? That a recent study done in China found the people who consider themselves religious are about 8 times more then what the government stated in the past? This being published in both state and privately run newspapers.
Did you even know a year ago China said they would reduce their military by 1 million and accomplished that this year?
Did you know China has publicly and internationally said they will never attack a sovereign nation pre-emptively?
Did you know China is modernizing its military simply because they can now afford too? Just like many countries do?
Did you know the USA, according to a 2005 congressional study, sells to the world 35% of the arms the world uses, and some independent studies put that as high as 60% while the same congressional study puts China's share at 3%?
=====================
What most people know of China would fit in a thimble, what most people THINK they know, you included, would fit in a barrel.
China is much of what you want her to be and little of what you think she is.

Signed, an ex pat from the USA who lives in the central part of China.

A country can't be criminal. By that measure the USA is a serial killer.
I see your point though, Cuba is inconvenient and China is convenient. But what you have to do is stop interfering and deal with whoever you think is convenient.

Ah, this question I feel confident to answer.
It's all tied to basic US foreign policy.
In a very crude way, it goes like this:
"If you are open for business with us, we will tolerate just about anything murderous you do to your OWN people, as long as you don't do it to us"
"However, if you are NOT open for business with us, regardless of your government, good or bad, we will torment, boycott, sanction and annoy you until such time as we can install a government that WILL do business with us"
Part Two:
"If your country is of no use to us, we really don't care what happens to you or what you do, as long as you don't embarass us in front of the world".

Cuba is not blockaded. There is an embargo. Everything else you claim is incorrect. See if you can get the Cubans in South Florida to agree with you. I doubt it.

I understand your concern. But let me ask you this, if the US population had grown to 2 billion, then what do you suggest must be done?.

And killing babies before birth is a whole lot better. Is that your point?
Still, I agree with your sentiment, just not your reasoning.
